Several fields can contain a phone number or an address while serving different purposes. A reliable review asks what each field is for, not simply whether its value looks familiar.
Three rows in a useful personal check
- Mailing destination
- Where should university mail reach you? The Registrar’s address page directs domestic students to Student Profile in CIS and international students to ISSS. It says diplomas use the mailing address. The Graduation FAQ further ties the destination to the address on file when cleared for graduation.
- Ways to reach you
- Which channel carries the message? The student IT guide identifies UMail as an official communication channel and gives Campus Alert its own preference area. Updating a mailing address does not establish that a separate contact preference is correct.
- A person to contact
- Who should be reached in an emergency? ISSS guidance describes a reachable person in the US or abroad and says to tell that person they have been added and discuss the responsibility. It names a CIS emergency-contact control; its navigation wording may differ from your current view.
The checklist is about purpose, then accuracy
- Name the purpose: mail, routine communication, alert delivery or emergency contact.
- Find the specific official setting: do not assume a field with similar wording updates the others.
- Review it privately: check the value in the university system, not by typing it into an editorial website.
- Confirm the human role: an emergency contact should know they are listed and be able to respond.
- Check any remaining question: use the responsible office if the navigation or expected output differs.
When the public instructions and screen differ
The emergency-contact source uses “Personal Bio/Demo Information” and “Change Emergency Contacts.” We have not verified the current authenticated student screen. Use those as the source’s labels, not a guarantee of today’s layout. Ask the university how to reach that function if it is not present.
If your task is an official current-address verification, the Registrar help page describes a separate verification route. A saved address and an issued verification are different outputs. This publication neither issues letters nor evaluates the evidence an outside recipient will accept.
